Woodard Attorney Featured in IndyStar Article on Mentoring Youths

November 24, 2014

As a young patent lawyer, Vince Wagner reached out to the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Wagner was paired with an 8-year-old boy, Tony Slocum. Vince and Tony’s relationship later grew to include another boy, Jimmy Saddler. Wagner took them to Cubs games, attended their sporting events, helped them get into college, and kept up with the both boys over the years. As they grew to be men, Wagner continued to encourage them to make positive choices and go the extra mile in all that they did. Now, 35 years later, he thinks of both of his “little brothers” as sons in “a lifelong family” he never expected to be a part of when he made that call 35 years ago. Congratulations to Vince on a great success story. See the full article published here in The IndyStar.

Woodard Attorney Featured in The Indiana Lawyer Article on Law Firm Apps

November 7, 2014

As a law student, Matthew Gardlik wanted to keep a copy of Black’s Law Dictionary nearby for quick reference, but he didn’t want to lug the massive tome from class to class. So he did what many smartphone and tablet users do: He found an app for that, downloaded it and always had the dictionary handy whenever he had a question.

Gardlik, now an associate at Woodard Emhardt Moriarty McNett & Henry LLP, is using the same idea to create the firm’s first app, which will have the current laws on intellectual property, like patents and trademarks, as well as the Code of Federal Regulations. See the full article published in The Indiana Lawyer here.

Mike Morris Helps Announce New Scholarship Opportunity for Rose-Hulman Graduates Seeking a Law Degree

Continued Success for Firm Sponsored FIRST Robotics Crossroads Regional at Rose-Hulman

March 13, 2014

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hosted the FIRST Robotics Crossroads Regional for the second time March 6th-8th. Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett and Henry LLP, a proud sponsor of this event since its inception, congratulates the winning teams and applauds all the students for their ingenuity and hard work. Bill McKenna, a partner at the firm, helped judge the three-day competition.

The FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) is a union of sport and mind, introducing high school aged innovators to real-world robotics challenges while promoting the value of education in STEM fields. FRC teams comprised of high school students and a handful of engineer-mentors design and build the robots in six weeks from a common set of parts, with the hopes of winning at various regional competitions.

This year’s Crossroads Regional included robots designed and constructed by teams from 45 high schools from nine states across the Midwest. The team’s robots were designed to play Aerial Assist, a game which requires that the robots cooperate in moving color coded exercise balls across a 25 by 54 foot playing field and into ground level and elevated scoring goals. The teams competed against one another in front of a crowd of more than 2,200 people.

Also attending this year’s event was Eighth District U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Indiana), who visited with teams, observed the competition, and spoke at the FIRST® Robotics supporter’s luncheon.
More details of the event can be found here.
